Switzerland turns its back on Swiss cheese
Swiss people are eating more cheese than ever, but when it comes to Emmental — the country’s legedary fromage full of holes, they are simply not interested, according to a new report.
The Swiss Farmers’ Association and Swiss milk producers say that cheese consumption per person increased 430 grams in 2008 — bringing the amount consumed by each Swiss resident to an impressive 21.7 kilograms, according to swissinfo.ch.
Despite, being home to such cheese classics as Emmental — known as Swiss cheese in the United States — and Gruyere, Switzerland’s new favourite comes from over the border in Italy.
Mozzarella leads the way with 2.4 kilograms being eaten annually by ever Swiss, the Web site reported.
While Gruyere and Raclette were close behind, Emmental sales plummeted by more than 27 percent, it said.

FANTASTIC!
